Photo a Day Challenge

Heavy

This 2,000 lb. ox rested in the hot sun in the pasture of the Schulz Farm.  Known as bullocks by our Australian mates, oxen are commonly castrated male cattle that are well suited for agricultural work because they can pull heavy loads. They are heavier, slower, steadier and less excitable than horses.

  8. A gentle giant at rest, he looks to have a thimble on one of his horns, what’s the story there?

Great image. I like the slightly agape mouth. You would think he would seek shade but perhaps brain size isn’t one of his strengths.

Your photo reminded me of a story I can only vaguely remember from my childhood, about Ferdinand the Bull. I can’t remember the details, but he was a laid back bull who wanted to lie under a tree and smell the flowers rather than fight.

  12. I think he’s saying it’s hot out here in the sun and where’s my air-conditioned barn! Great capture especially with his expressive face.

  13. You would think he would seek out osme shade! You’ve really captured the essence of a hot day with his glistening coat and open mouth.

  14. He does seem to be trying to say something. I like the rail fence, he could just walk right through it I imagine
