Photo a Day Challenge

We think this is an F-18 E/F Super Hornet which flies at Mach 1.8+.  This fighter was simply amazing.  Attempts to find it in the sky produced both grimaces and smiles of wonder because we could not hear it coming;  it was almost gone by the time we saw and finally heard it!

  1. During the seventies the Phantoms were like that, you never heard them until the sound blasted you in the face, and scared you witless.

  2. Love how they sneak up behind you and have screamed past the crowd before you can take it all in 🙂 Great capture with the after burners lit.

It’s not a super hornet but a regular hornet, depending on if it has 1 or 2 seats it’s either an F-18c or F-18d hornet. You can tell by the shape of the flat area in front of the wings (super hornets have bigger ones and are one curve as opposed to the wavy design on the hornet) and the intakes are semicircles as opposed to the rectangular super hornet intakes.
