Leonardo Da Vinci was not only a highly creative artist, but also a very logical and precise engineer and scientist.  He invented the “exploded drawing” to isolate and emphasize the different parts as seen for this machine that changes the axis of rotation.  Reminds us of an auto’s driveshaft, differential, and rear axel.

  4. there’s something about da Vinci’s engineering drawings that I find really stimulating. i would happily have them plastered all over the house. It’s great to see some of them made into reality and you have really captured that machinery perfectly.; a superb composition. I love the way that the colour of the wood emulates the yellowed look of his diagrams. Did you tone the picture that way or was that the colour of the wood?

    • The lighting in the exhibition hall cast a warm tone on the wood. No toning was done.
