Wrap It Up
Purchases made in the 1870s at Harkens General Store in West Newton, Minnesota, were wrapped in brown paper tied with string; no cardboard boxes, no paper bags, no Scotch Tape. The store was closed when the railroad bypassed the town, and much of the inventory was left unsold where it remains today. The store is now managed by the Nicollet County Historical Society.
I was expecting a Sports Car that John was buying.

I’m amazed at the size of that roll of brown paper, so sad that it won’t be being used to wrap anything anymore. A lovely peep back in time.
