John played this King trumpet in the 50s and 60s.  It was made by the H. N. White Co. of Cleveland, Ohio and given to John by his great uncle who played it in the earlier 1900s.  It now resides in an antique library case where it has taken a special shine to the mellow sounds of Winton Marsalis emanating from our nearby sound system.

Really nicely composed, and the colors are very Mardi Gras-ish.

Nice composition… I like how you’ve left so much black space to the right… and that it is not centered.

  6. Just glowing with class, that goes for presentation as well.

  7. This one is poster worth–so crisp! The composition is just enough off-balance to give it an edgy sense of motion.

  8. That’s a smashing story about a family heirloom and I really like that picture too. Does it still get the occasional play? It would make a great centre piece for a music-themed triptych.

I first read that it is now kept in a case in an antique library, but when I re-read it I realised it was an antique case from a library. 🙂

  10. Quite a clever shot – I like the use of negative space for the music to erupt into. It sure has a neat lineage that makes me wonder about all the tunes it’s played over its lifetime.
